LOS ANGELES—A Los Angeles County judge accused of pushing and injuring a woman in a dispute over her dog's waste claims his accuser has a history of mental illness and the case should be dismissed.

Superior Court Judge Craig Richman faces a misdemeanor count of battery.

Connie Romero accuses Richman of pushing her from behind and knocking her to the ground in Calabasas last summer.

Richman says he approached Romero and asked her to find a trash can for the excrement, but she threw the bag at him.

The Los Angeles Times reported Monday ( http://lat.ms/1djLgDw) that Richman's lawyer, James Blatt, contended during a preliminary hearing that Romero has a long history of erratic behavior. Blatt said the chance of a conviction is remote and asked that the case be tossed.
