The district attorney's office said in a statement Friday that the charge against 22-year-old Devon Anderson includes a special allegation that the murder was committed willfully, deliberately and with premeditation
The statement says deputies responding to a 911 call late Monday night spotted freshly dug dirt in the backyard and found a young woman dead in the ground. Her name has not been released.
Prosecutors say a few hours later Anderson walked into the Compton sheriff's station and surrendered.
Anderson was being held on $1 million bail and could get 25 years-to-life.
He appeared in court Friday, but his arraignment was postponed until Jan. 17.
