The bright green plants of summer are now droopy and brown.
Randy McDonald says the plants are deciduous and they go dormant in winter. He tells the Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/1hJ7kI5) that they'll be back—and experts say they should bloom again next summer.
Lotus plants were a landmark of the urban lake but about seven years ago they began to die and by 2008 they had vanished.
The plants were restored under a $45 million renovation of the lake, which reopened this summer.
