At the Races

Maybe the fires and summer vacations were some of the reasons there were fewer fans and racers at Redwood Acres Raceway on July 12. It was announced that Ryan Peeples had been in Redding and it took him 17 hours to get to Redwood Acres because of fires closing the highways and he didn't get rewarded for his diligence to race as he ended up with a blown motor in the Real Stock Heat race. The Limited Street class did not race due to lack of cars.

In REAL STOCK: Trevor Miller won the Trophy Dash. Only 7 cars made the grid in the Heat race after Shawn Craig lost a motor in the Trophy Dash. The race was yellow flagged before the first lap was completed when Ryan Robinson and Dustin Walters had contact. Miller, who was moved into the front row, took the lead with Peeples in second spot. Jim Redd came from the back and got past Peeples just before Peeple's motor went up in smoke. Miller won, Redd was 2nd and Robinson finished 3rd.

The Main Event started with 5 cars for a 10 lap race. At the start of the race, Walters and Redd had contact in turn 2 and Redd slammed the wall ending his race and the red flag flew. After the restart, Miller garnered the lead and

the win with Robinson in second and Walters finishing third.

In MINI STOCK: Scott Baker won the Trophy Dash. In the 10 lap Heat race, Craig Baker took the lead with Brian McIntosh, Brian Murrell, Sr. and Scott Baker in tow and they finished that way. Brian Murrell, Jr. and Norm Carmichael, who were racing for their second weekend, and new driver Ryan Ahrens have joined the ranks upping the car count in this class.

Eight cars started the 20 lap Main Event, but Carmichael's car hit the turn 4 wall for a red flag. Craig Baker led at the restart and took the win with McIntosh 2nd, and Murrell, Sr. in 3rd. Ahrens and Murrell, Jr. had their own race at the back of the field and gained track experience.

In THUNDER ROADSTER: Mike Ward won the Trophy Dash. The cars all raced side by side for several laps with Donn Cole and Chris Lawrence the holders of the front row. By lap 3 the cars were starting to run in single file with Cole leading, Robert Miller, Ward and Paul Peeples, Jr. the front runners when Miller spun ending up backwards between turns 3 and 4 with cars dodging him. Cole and Tommy Payne had contact with each other.

At the restart, Ward took the lead but Peeples was moving up to challenge and took the lead and the win. Ward was second and Troy Combs finished third. With only 6 cars starting the Main Event, it was decided it would only be 15 laps. Miller took the lead but on lap 4 Combs got under him. Peeples had passed Ward and then got by Miller. Combs and Peeples pulled away from the 'pack.' Combs won, Peeples was 2nd, Miller 3rd and Ward finished 4th.

In SPORTSMAN: Mic Moulton won the Trophy Dash. In the first of two 10 lap Heat races Brandon Barnwell took the lead and the win. Dennis DelBiaggio had come from the back to finish 2nd and Ken Hallis was 3rd. Jerry Peterson took the lead from the front row in the second heat and the win with everyone else jockeying for position.

Lissa Uselton got by Angelo Marcelli to run in second with Larry Pries also getting past Marcelli but ended up spinning in turn 2 which brought out a yellow flag. Uselton took 2nd and Marty Walsh finished in 3rd. The Main Event started with 11 cars but Romeo Venza was black flagged before the green flag for a fuel leak and dove into the pits for repair.

Peterson took the lead followed by Marcelli, Barnwell, DelBiaggio and Hallis. Marcelli faded and Walsh and Uselton moved into 5th and 6th positions. Barnwell got by Peterson who appeared to have a handling problem as he was then passed by most of the field. The yellow came out when Peterson spun into the infield in turn 2 and then went to the pits.

At the restart Moulton and Pries had moved into 4th and 5th position. Moulton and Pries got past Walsh.

Moulton had contact with DelBiaggio and he tagged the turn 2 wall. At the restart with one lap remaining, Barnwell led Pries, Walsh, Uselton and Hallis to the green flag but Pries and Walsh had contact in turn 4 and

although Moulton crossed the finish line second, he was moved back several spots as a penalty for 'jumping' the green flag at the restart. Barnwell won, Uselton was 2nd and Hallis 3rd.

The next race will be in two weeks on Saturday July 26.
