The Cobra and Butterfly Karate School traveled to Joplin, Missouri on June 5 where owner and chief instructor Kevin Morris brought three students to test for black belt ranks in front of a distinguished group of high level masters includeing Black Belt Magazines 'Man of the Year,' Tenshi Goju Grand Master Hanshi Lou Angel.

The students of Fortuna's Cobra and Butterfly Karate tested were Tony Whitehead who earned his 5th degree black belt Master rank, Robert Leiterman earned his 2nd degree black belt, and David Sopjes, Ferndale High School Science teacher, earned his 1st degree black belt.

The Cobra and Butterfly Karate team then traveled to Springfield, Missouri on June 6 dodging tornados and golf ball size hail. The group participated in the Los Angeles N.C.M.A. Annual tournament refereeing and competing. Robert Leiterman placed 2nd in a multi-attacker with clubs vs his PR-24. He defeated his attacker and applied full handcuffing techniques.

Leiterman's performance was awesome. Next year's black belt testing will be held in Dalton, Georgia. The Cobra and Butterfly Karate School is now accepting new students. For details call 725-4849 or drop by the school at 1711 Main Street in Fortuna.
