At the Races

The grandstands were filled on Saturday June 14, the Father's Night Race and fans were treated to the Pro 4 Modifieds racing and cake to celebrate Rich and Linda Olson's 20th year as promoters of the races at Redwood Acres Raceway.

In the Real Stock category: Trevor Miller won the Trophy Dash. In the Heat race, Nick Green took the lead followed by Jim Redd and Marvin Savage. The yellow flew when Shawn Craig and another car had contact and Craig suffered a flat tire as the incident caused the rubber valve stem to be torn out. Green held the lead at the restart but Redd got under him and took it away. Miller had passed Bob Lima to take over 3rd and soon got by Green.

Redd won, Miller was 2nd, Lima 3rd and Green finished 4th. Lima took the lead in the Main Event from the front row. Craig got past Green to take over 2nd. The yellow flew when Casey Mitchell pulled into the infield at turn 2 and retired to the pits. Lima and Craig raced side by side with Craig taking the lead. Redd got past Green for third spot. Miller caught up with the front three pack of cars and got past both Lima and Redd. Craig won, Miller was 2nd, Redd was 3rd, Green 4th and Lima

finished in 5th.

In the Limited Street category: Fergy Ferguson won the Trophy Dash. Kenny Demello took the lead in the Heat race which became their Main Event due to low car count. Demello stretched the lead and won, leaving the others to race for second. Craig Huffman got tapped by Ferguson who then took over the second spot. Duane Mayo dogged Ferguson and got past him to finish in 2nd with Ferguson in 3rd and Huffman finishing 4th.

Mini Stock: Scott Baker won the Trophy Dash. Brian McIntosh took the lead in the Heat race with Brian Murrell and Max Capps running side by side and Murrell garnering 2nd. McIntosh won, Murrell was second and Capps finished 3rd. It was announced that the Mini's would not have another race this night as there were only 5 cars but Craig Baker managed to get his car running after coasting to the pits in the Trophy Dash and they were able to run their Main Event.

Denzel Barrett took the lead but lost it when he spun into the infield in turn 2 after the start of their Main Event. Capps took the lead but Murrell got around him. Craig Baker had come up to challenge Murrell for the lead but got loose in turn 4, slid into Murrell on the front straight which left Baker's front bumper hanging very loose.

The bumper touched the ground, swung under the car, came off and scraped the track as it was stuck under Baker's car. The tow truck lifted Baker's car and the bumper was removed and Baker drove away, although at the back of the pack. Scott Baker inherited the lead and the win with Capps finishing in 2nd and McIntosh in 3rd.

In the Pro 4 category: Willie Leuzinger won the Trophy Dash. Kevin Barba took the early lead in the Heat race. Marty Walsh was driving Jaison Chand's car and was marching to the front when there was contact between several cars and he was involved, which relegated him to the back of the pack. Cody Barba got past Justin Dutcher and then got by Kevin Barba to take the lead.

Andy Leuzinger tried passing Cody using the outside line but spun coming out of turn 2. Cody Barba won, Joe Sloan was second, Greg Van Cleve 3rd and Willie Leuzinger finished 4th. At the start of the Main Event, the yellow flag flew when Cody and Kevin Barba got together resulting in both cars being towed to the pits.

Johnny Barker took the lead at the restart but Dutcher got under him and Van Cleve, Walsh, and Sloan freight trained by too. Van Cleve took the lead with Walsh, Sloan and Andy Leuzinger following him past Dutcher. Sloan, Andy Leuzinger and Willie Leuzinger got past Walsh and then they freight trained past Van Cleve. Sloan won, Willie Leuzinger was 2nd, Andy Leuzinger was 3rd and Walsh finished 4th.

In the Thunder Roadster category: David Henderson won the Trophy Dash. Dave McMurray took the lead in the first Heat race and the win. Rick Crawley finished second and Robert Miller was 3rd. Leroy Marsh, Jr. took the lead in the 2nd Heat race followed by Mike Ward, Troy Combs, Paul Peeples, Jr. and Henderson. They ran nose to tail until lap 8 when Combs got spun when Peeples tagged him and the yellow flag flew. After the restart Peeples and Henderson got past Ward and Marsh.

Peeples took the win, Henderson was second and Ward finished 3rd. Belinda Ward won the Novice race. At the start of the Main Event, Miller and Crawley had contact with Crawley hitting the back straight wall and being towed away. Bruce Ziemer took the lead with Jay Bahner, Henderson, Donn Cole, Peeples, Combs and Gerhy Foster in tow. Henderson got past Bahner and Combs got by him too.

Peeples, who had been caught on the outside, got by Bahner. Henderson and Combs got past Ziemer and shortly after Peeples got around him to run in third. Henderson, Combs and Peeples stretched their three car lead to dice between themselves for position. Peeples got under Combs and took over second spot. Combs spun on Lap 23 and the yellow flew.

Henderson and Peeples were racing side by side and had contact coming out of turn 2 with Henderson on the high side with a loose car and Henderson lost it coming into turn 3 and hit Peeples, turning him into the wall. The red flag came out. Peeples was towed to the pits and Henderson went to the pits as he was going to be relegated to the back of the field with only a couple of laps remaining in the race. Ziemer took the lead at the restart but Foster got by him to win with Ziemer in 2nd and Bahner finishing 3rd.

Sportsman: Dennis DelBiaggio won the Trophy Dash. Lissa Uselton took the lead from the front row in the Heat race followed by Brandon Barnwell, DelBiaggio, Rick Fox and Larry Pries. Uselton won. DelBiaggio got past Barnwell to finish 2nd and Barnwell was 3rd. In the 25 lap Main Event, Angelo Marcelli took the lead from the front row but the yellow flew when Uselton spun and hit the wall between turns 3 and 4 and was towed to the pits.

At the restart Marcelli held the lead but DelBiaggio got by Barnwell and then Marcelli to take the lead. Pries got past Barnwell and then Marcelli to chase after DelBiaggio. On Lap 11 Rick Fox spun while racing side by side with Barnwell for fourth spot. Several laps later, Barnwell got past Marcelli but DelBiaggio and Pries had pulled out a good lead. DelBiaggio won, Pries was 2nd, Barnwell 3rd, Fox 4th and Marcelli finished 5th.

Two days of racing will be held on June 27 and 28, Friday and Saturday nights of the Redwood Acres Fair.
