At the races

By Penny Elsebusch

The Mothers Day race at Redwood Acres on May 10 included the Best Appearing Car contest and quite a few cars lined up on the front straight for their fans to cheer for them. Ryan Peeples took the Real Stock class; Fergy Ferguson won the Limited Street class; Robert Miller won in Thunder Roadsters; Larry Pries won the Sportsman class; and Brian Murrell won the Mini Stock class by putting his 'best side' towards the stands since he had damaged his car in practice and ran without the front body work in the Trophy Dash.

Although it looked like it was going to be a good racing night, the fog started moving in and the track was getting slick from mist.

In the Real Stock class, Ryan Peeples won the Trophy Dash. Ryan Mosher took the early lead in the first Heat race with Jim Redd and Bob Lima in tow. Lima got past Redd and charging Nick Green tagged Redd spinning him and the yellow flag flew. On Lap 7, Redd slid up the track in turn 3 and scraped the wall.

Lima took the lead and the win after the restart with Mosher in second and Donnie Brown finishing in third. Peeples garnered the lead in the second heat race, but Trevor Miller got under Peeples and

got by him with Shawn Craig freight training past Peeples to run in second. Miller took the win, Craig was second, Dustin Walters was third and Peeples finished fourth.

In the Limited Street division, Fergy Ferguson won the Trophy Dash. With the fog getting thicker as the green flag flew on the Heat race, Kenny Demello spun coming into turn 4 and Duane Mayo could not avoid contact with Demello and Demello's right rear tire ended up laying on the track which brought out the yellow flag.

The course workers began to walk around the track to determine if it was too damp to continue. The Limited Street, some Mini Stocks and the tow trucks lined up and circled the track to try to dry it. The race was restarted but was again stopped when the cars were sliding on the track and the rest of the race night was cancelled.

In Mini Stock class, Brian Murrell won the Trophy Dash; in Thunder Roadster, Paul Peeples, Jr. won the Trophy Dash; in Sportsman class, Larry Pries won the Trophy Dash.

If you attended this race, your race tickets will be honored at the next race on May 17.
