The Fortuna Huskies hosted the Eureka Loggers for a Big 5 conference double-header last Saturday. The Huskies came from behind in game one and held off a late comeback by the Loggers to earn the 7-6 win and their first league win of the season. Maggie Wells was the winning pitcher in relief and Lisa Boling hit a bases clearing double in the decisive 5th inning. A single by Keely Baird followed by bunt singles by Tamara Miranda and Lili Herrera set the table for the Boling hit.
The Loggers exacted revenge in game two when they overcame an early lead by the Huskies to pull out a 12-9 victory. Fortuna scored 7 runs in the 2nd inning and 2 more in the 3rd and was thinking sweep but did not score the rest of the way. Kyrie Slade went 2 for 3, Taylor Burgess and Keely Baird each hit a double, but Eureka scored late to spoil the effort. The Huskies have upcoming double-headers on the road against Del Norte and Arcata.
