Mallorie Franco competed in the girls long jump at the HDN track and field event in Mckinleyville on April 16. Franco used the event as a tune-up for the Chico Invitational on Friday where she jumped to a 1st place finish in the high jump with a 5 feet 4 inche leap. Franco set a Fortuna High School record with the jump and followed up with a 5th place finish in the long jump. Several Huskies teammates made the trip to Chico for the exclusive event and placed well. This week the track and field season continues with a HDN meet at Fortuna leading up to the HDN Big 5 Conference Championships on May 2nd at Del Norte. Brian Sisson reached for as much distance as possible in the boys long jump. The efforts of Sisson and his teammates paced the Fortuna boys to a solid 2nd place showing at the HDN event. The long limbs of Fortuna's Kelsey Jacobs came to good use as she soared to a 1st place finish in the girls triple jump event in Mckinleyville. Jacobs followed up with a 1st in the high jump with a height of 4 feet10 inches.
