On Saturday, April 12, the H-DNC tennis single championship was held in Del Norte.
Ferndale's team had finished the season with a strong 9-4 overall record. The best record completed in years.
Their strength was reflected by four of their six players being seeded number 2 in their respective group. It was no surpirse that the perennial powerhouse Arcata had earned all the number 1 seeds in all six groups. At the end of the day, four Ferndale kids were playing against four Arcata kids in seeds three through six.
Zach Leonardi played tough matches against Arcata, but it was Trevor Nesvold that emerged victorioys over Arcata's Edward Hunter. Nesvold fought his way back from being down 0-5 in the first set, to push a tie breaker to 5-7 in the first set.
Although he lost the fisrt set, he came back to defeat Hunter 6-1, 6-2 and clinched the championship in the #3 seeding. Overall a great ending to a successful season, and Ferndale can look forward to next year with a strong squad returning.
