The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a hit-and-run and possible shooting after receiving a call of an altercation on Cedar Street in Eureka, according to a Tuesday press release from the sheriff's office.

At around 11:50 p.m. Monday, the sheriff's office received a call reporting gunshots on the 3900 block of Cedar Street. Witnesses told deputies that an argument took place between the 24-year-old male victim visiting a Cedar Street residence and two 23-year-old men. When the two men left, the victim heard his truck start up and saw it drive away.

The truck, which had hit another vehicle and a fence, was found unoccupied at the end of Redwood Street in Eureka by deputies. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the hit-and-run case.

Sheriff's deputies did not find any evidence indicating that gunshots were fired, according to the press release.
