In his editorial in the inaugural edition of The Humboldt Beacon on March 7, 1902, G. A. Jasper promised the public "a clean wide-awake newspaper." The paper has delivered on that promise every week in the more than 100 years since, surviving fires (the Beacon's office has burned down twice in its history), floods, earthquakes and many changes along the way and reporting on all of them.
One thing that has not changed much is the Beacon's loyal readers and advertisers. It is your input that keeps the paper alive a vital part of your community. We like to think that the lighthouse the beacon on the front of our newspaper symbolizes our mission: to shine a light on the issues and events that are important to you, our readers.
Whether it's a check presentation, a new business in town, or a weighty issue being debated by the city council, you can read about it in the pages of The Humboldt Beacon, along with opinion, school news, entertainment, sports and more.
But we are always conscious that we couldn't do it without you, our readers. This is your newspaper, about your community. Thank you for helping to make it the great paper that it is. We look forward to a hundred more years of partnership with you.
