Strongs Creek Plaza in Fortuna will be holding their annual open house on Thursday, Dec. 5. The event will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 1095 South Fortuna Blvd.

Strongs Creek Plaza holiday open house chairwoman Sava Overholt invites the community to come down and kick off the holiday months with a fun-filled event.

There will be a 20 to 30 foot tree this year on the plaza between Longboard Subs and KiDiLiCiouS donated by Glamorous Boutique and 5 O'clock Shadow decorated with the year's theme of Winter Wonderland.

”Strongs Creek is one of the first shopping centers to kick off the holiday season with an open house event,” Overholt said. “This event is one of the first times the kids get to see Santa. I love to see their faces light up and the excitement in their voices when they see Santa.”

Although Santa has a very busy schedule this time of year, he will be making an appearance at the open house. This is a great time to enjoy a cup of hot cocoa and get your picture taken with Santa. Rest assured, you are never too old to have your picture taken with Santa and give him your wish list.

The Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department will be taking the pictures this year. The department has started their Santa Sleigh drive and will have their barrels placed in businesses. The FVFD works throughout the year to raise funds to provide a meal, clothing, and toys to needy families throughout the community that would otherwise go without this holiday season.

The Strongs Creek Plaza Association will be helping out with the Santa Sleigh program by collecting unwrapped gifts and monetary donations. Those donations will receive a snowflake ornament where donors can put their own name or business and it will be laminated to place upon the holiday tree that will be on display at Strongs Creek Plaza during the holidays.

”The Santa Sleigh Program will serve 200 families in Fortuna,” Overholt said. “It is a great program that we are so happy to get behind and support.”

Cuddeback School will be on hand selling hot chocolate to help benefit the school. Several other nonprofits will be selling mistletoe, wreaths, and other goodies.

”This is a great opportunity to come see what the local businesses have to share this holiday season,” Overholt said. “To come out, enjoy the evening and support local businesses while enjoying a special evening with your family. It is a win-win.”
