Fortuna Middle School studentsenvision a better world

Humboldt Beacon

Dear Editor,

The Fortuna Middle School's 8th grade class kicked off their “Better World Project” this week with a Haiti Challenge. Students brought in donations for World Shelters Haiti Response, and students gave generously contributing $640 the first week. The “Better World Project” is designed to raise students consciousness regarding world issues.

Students use reading, researching, writing, listening and speaking skills as they discover ways to make their world a better place. It becomes so much more than just a school project. It becomes a life lesson in activism and good citizenship.

Community members who are interested in being a presenter on world issues or would like to mentor a group, please contact me, Linda Metheney at 725-3415. The “Better World Symposium” will be held June 4.
