During the College of the Redwoods Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, President/Superintendent Kathy Smith will provide a preliminary draft of the special report that will be submitted to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges.

CR received a notice from the commission on Feb. 7 that it had been removed from all sanctions, but would need to “develop and submit a three-year budget plan to resolve Other Post-Employment Benefits (OPEB) financing and to develop a three-year cash flow plan” by April 15, according to the staff report. The preliminary report will be distributed at the meeting.

”Once the April 15 report is filed, we plan to pause and celebrate the good work that has been accomplished over the last two years that resulted in CR being removed from 'Show Cause' sanction,” Smith said in the staff report.

During Smith's informational report, she will note that the Garberville Instructional site will offer some community education and non-credit classes -- including ESL and GED classes -- in the fall as part of an “effort to provide needed educational services to the Southern Humboldt community,” according to the staff report.

At a Feb. 6 meeting, the board held the first reading of a recommended plan to suspend operations at the Garberville site in order to save costs, drawing public outcry.

”As we do this, we will be working on the plans outlined in my February report to the board, which included a redesigned distance education program, potentially more dual enrollment opportunities for high school students, the new adult education program and increased opportunities through community education,” Smith said.
