Two Cuddeback School classes submitted award-winning entries in the Redwood Region Logging Conference annual mural contest. The artwork must fit with the theme of the Conference, which this year was “Real. Strong. Redwood.”

Teacher Bernadette Church's 4th/5th grade class captured first place and a $150 cash award in the grades 4-6 category, and teacher Lindsi Reback's 1st grade class captured third place and a $100 cash award in the kindergarten-3rd grade category.

Other Humboldt County school mural winners in the Kindergarten-3rd grade level are: First place ($150 for classroom activities) to Ridgewood Elementary teacher August DeShais' kindergarten class, and honorable mentions ($75 for classroom activities) to South Fortuna Elementary teacher Susana Coleman's Transitional kindergarten class and Ridgewood Elementary School teacher Mary Neal's 2nd grade class.

Humboldt County School winners in the 4th-8th grade level are: Third place ($100 for classroom activities) to North Coast learning Academy teacher Rebekah Davis' class, and honorable mention ($75 for classroom activities) to North Coast Learning Academy Amanda Sharp's class.

Thirteen schools in Humboldt County, 11 schools in Mendocino County and one school in Del Norte County submitted 66 murals to be judged. More than $3,700 in prize money was awarded to participating schools. The contest and cash awards are sponsored by Umpqua Bank.
