”We want to introduce our high school students to potential employers, so we can keep our students working and expanding into our community,” Fortuna High School Principal Clint Duey said.
Examples of potential employers expected to participate include College of the Redwoods and Humboldt State University, as well as Fortuna's fire and police departments. In addition, the Fortuna High School Culinary Club will have food available during the event.
”We view this (career fair) as an opportunity for the students to make better connections with the business community,” Duey said. “When we partner with local business, the kids can stay in the local community and get decent career jobs.”
The students and others who attend are encouraged to bring copies of their resumes to share with potential employment opportunity contacts made at the career fair.
Tips will also be available for job interview techniques and good work habits, such as how to dress for success for a job interview, and arriving for work at the scheduled time.
Members of the business community still have time to get involved in the career fair. For more information contact Dana A. Webb at Dwebb@rockporthc.com or contact Fortuna High School Principal Clint Duey at 725-4461 or by email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Tied to the career fair is what the school calls Interview Day, where a student participates in a mock interview with a real Eel River Valley business. This provides hand on experience in preparing for the employment process. Interview Day is scheduled to take place May 20.
