Another billboard was cut down on U.S. Highway 101, Arcata officials said Friday.

This time the sign was chopped down near Gannon Slough on the west side of southbound the highway, which is within Arcata city limits, Community Development Director Larry Oetker said.

”We were alerted of this late (Friday) morning,” Oetker said. “It doesn't appear to be any natural causes or wind, so my assumption is it's vandalism.”

Oetker said he is not sure whose advertisement is on the billboard, or the estimated damage amount.

City officials said the information was forwarded to the Arcata Police Department. Arcata police officials could not confirm this by the Times-Standard's deadline.

On Jan. 2, a felled billboard along the southbound lanes of safety corridor was reported to the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office by the owner, CBS Outdoor Inc. Damage costs are estimated at $15,000, and no suspect has been identified.
