Dispose of that Christmas tree in a responsible manner and help Fortuna-based Girl Scout Troop 10636 raise money for educational activities. Volunteers will come to your home and pick up the tree for a small donation, using the proceeds for two days of learning at the Sequoia Park Zoo and on board the Madaket.
The trip to the zoo is planned as a “behind the scenes” visit so the troop members can learn about the many furry, feathered, and other creatures which call the Eureka zoo home. No date has been set, but will be determined once fundraising has been completed.
The trip on the Madaket will also be selected soon, and will include a special guided tour of Humboldt Bay, with educational tidbits provided by a Humboldt State University Wildlife student.
The troop hopes to raise $300 from the Christmas tree fundraiser to pay for the educational activities, which will assist the members in earning Girl Scout badges.
For a donation of $10 in the Fortuna area and $15 in the Eureka area, troop representatives will pick up your Christmas tree. All donations are tax deductible. Schedule a pick up between now and Sunday, January 5th by calling 498-9882.
