Little Faith Wrisley had no idea that her second birthday would come with strings attached. Six days after the little girl with locks of gold turned two years old her parents found out the horrible news on Dec. 6. Wilms' tumor had taken up residence in vibrant Faith. Wilms' is a cancer of the kidneys.
David and Andrea Wrisley live in Scotia with their two daughters 4-year-old Destiny and 2-year-old Faith.
After an initial visit to UCSF on Dec. 6, Andrea said “When the time came, a team of five doctors came in to break the news. Faith had active Wilms' tumors on her right kidney, and lesions on the left kidney that could become tumors. We were devastated. You always hear about these things, and see the St. Jude's commercials, but you never think it will be your child.”
Within three days the family would hear from UCSF instructing them to come down on Dec. 11. Thursday morning Faith will have her stent placed to begin chemotherapy on Friday with the possibility of Faith's kidney to be removed as well.
In true form, the mothers behind Ethan & Teyler Totes have stepped up to assist the Wrisley Family. E & T is looking for donations to send a care package to the family at UCSF. The deadline for this initial package is Dec. 17.
If you would like to help you they are looking for gas cards, Safeway cards, monetary donations, Starbucks cards, and a homemade quilt or blanket for Faith.
The family asked for one item and it was slipper socks for Faith as she will be in the hospital for a while. As moms of children who have been in this same situation, founders Jennifer Bailey and Stacy Craig know the importance of keeping your mind occupied during down time. Accordingly E & T is looking for activities for the family to keep the mind busy and entertained during this high stress time.
Faith is only two and will have a lot of time to fill while she is in treatment. Donations of fun age appropriate activities would be a great addition to the care package from the community. Faith loves music, horses, and Minnie Mouse.
In the five days since diagnosis, Facebook has come alive with prayers and support for the Wrisleys. The community of the Eel River Valley has again stepped up to help those in need and as Ethan & Teyler Totes has said many times, “This community and the people in it are amazing and never cease to amaze us with their love and generosity.”
If you would like to make a donation for the care package or to the Wrisley family you can do so by dropping it off at Longboard Subs (Attention Kendra Bailey), Fortuna High (Attention Sarah Reback), or Like Nobody Else Day Spa (Attention Stacy Craig).
Ethan & Teyler Totes is more than happy to come to you and pick up your donation. If you are interested in pick up message Ethan & Teyler Totes on Facebook or call 498-9382. Donations can also be mailed to P.O. 483, Fortuna CA 95540.
