For the Scotia-based band Doug Fir and the 2 x 4's, this weekend's Apple Harvest Festival may be the last outdoor gig this year, and if you miss that, you can show your support for the band by casting your vote in the KWPT Radio Battle of the Bands Classic Cover Contest.
Doug Fir and the 2 x 4's will be playing for free from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at Rohner Park to support the Fortuna Parks & Recreation Department, according to guitar player Frank Bacik.
Doug Fir and the 2 x 4's performs classic guitar-driven rock and roll songs from the 1940s forward, including favorites from the Rolling Stones, Bad Company, James Gang, Bachman Turner Overdrive, and others.
It is a multigenerational rock and roll band featuring fathers, sons, and friends. The current performing members are Humboldt State University student Griffin Back on keyboard and vocals, his dad Frank Bacik on guitar, Michael Chapman on bass, and his son Ryan Chapman on drums.
The band's fans will have an opportunity to show their support today, by casting votes for them in the Third Annual Battle of the Bands Classic Cover Contest on KWPT.
”Local band recordings are played on the radio three times a day,” Bacik said, “and folks vote for their favorite by calling in to the radio station or voting on the station's Facebook page.”
Bacik said the band likes to participate in the Classic Cover Contest every year “because we get some of our classic recordings played on the local radio, and it's fun to hear all the other local bands we see around at venues and gigs throughout the year.”
