You no longer have to wait for a special event in Humboldt County to get rid of e-waste such as computer monitors or TVs. As of Sept. 1, Eel River Resource Recovery and Arcata Resource Recovery Center have begun accepting e-waste every day.

This service was implemented because of the high volume of electronic waste in Humboldt County. E-waste is any item with a digital readout or processing board, such as computer monitors, copiers, TVs etc.

Eel River Resource Recovery established a recycling program and annual e-waste event in 2010, collecting 45 tons of materials to be recycled. In 2011, 78 tons was shipped for recycling and 127 tons in 2012. Already in 2013, over 75 tons of recycled materials have been collected in Humboldt County.

All of the e-waste collected in Humboldt County is dismantled and recycled in California by California Electric Asset Recovery, located in Mather.

Eel River Resource Recovery hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Arcata Resource Recovery Center hours are Wednesday-Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
