Families Advocating Autism Now will be holding their 5th Annual Wine Tasting and Auction on Sunday, August 24th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Rosina Vineyards located at 751 Sorenson Road in Redcrest.

The event is to help raise funds for the organization that provides assistance and information to families of Autism. The group according to their webpage is made up of parents of children who have been diagnosed with autism in the Humboldt County, California area.

The $30 pre-sale only ticket will gain you access to the beautiful vineyard estate of Rosina Vineyards, 5 wine tastings, a buffet of mouthwatering hors d'oeuvres, and savory barbecued oysters.

In addition to the sights and treats the event will play host to an extensive auction where guests can silent, dutch, and live auction bid on a variety of items.

Emily Lewis, one of the founding members of the 2009 group, said it was very fortunate to have a very supportive community.

”We are so overwhelmed with the continued annual support for this event and people's generosity,” she said.

Lewis said there are about 12 items in the live auction ranging from a seven-day stay in a condo in Hawaii to Giants or 49er tickets.

”The silent and dutch auctions will include local wines, locally made jewelry, Fire and Light, local gift certificates, and much more,” she said.

Lewis described FAAN as dedicated to finding new and better ways to help the education system adapt to the growing and changing needs of the autistic child.

”Our group of mothers, fathers, and families are dedicated to finding a way to give these children the opportunities to succeed in new and extraordinary ways,” she said.

The group would like to see the community come together to help them prepare the education system for these children to learn and grow as would any other child. Outside of special needs classrooms training is sparse to assist children in their day to day lives in a school wide learning environment.

FAAN is a 501(c)3 non-profit group of parents of children with autism that are dedicated to providing support and advocacy for children with autism.

The group will also be having a drawing for a brand new Apple iPad2 at the wine event, but you need not be present to win. Tickets for the drawing are $5 each and can be purchased online. Additionally you can make a donation and purchase a wine event ticket online at http://www.families-advocating-autism-now.com/default.html using PayPal.

All proceeds from the event and drawing will go to the FAAN, the only nonprofit in Humboldt County that benefits children with autism. Lewis said, “We are very happy with how the group is going and each year we are able to do more for the kids. Last year we started water therapy grants and the parents really appreciate that service. You can find the grant applications online along with our iPad and teaching education grants.”

Cash or check donations can be mailed to FAAN at P.O. Box 251, Eureka, California 95502. For more information contact Emily Lewis at (707)499-0741 or email faaninfo@gmail.com.
