As the Ferndale Garden Club celebrates 75 years of civic beautification activities and encouraging interest in gardening, the organization is also celebrating winning first place for its display at this year's Humboldt County Fair.

The title of the exhibit in the Hall of Flowers building is “The Kitchen Garden Lives On,” and it includes a variety of vegetables, fruits, flowers, and herbs.

A number of community members contributed to the exhibit including Shelly Bjork, Chrys Hamper, Sharon Katri, Lois Keller, Karin King, Betty Ann Koch, Glenda Lemasters, Kathy Leonardi Family, Dorian Lowry, Donell McCanless, Barbara Perra, Shirley Robertson, Lucille Scilacci, and Sarah Turner.

The Ferndale Garden Club was organized on March 9, 1938 and meets every second Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m. at Ferndale Town Hall.

Club members maintain Ferndale's public gardens at several locations including the Town Hall, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Public Library, Post Office, and the public restrooms in Ferndale.

Ferndale Garden Club annual events include the Humboldt County Fair exhibit, Humboldt County Fair Art & Flower Show Gala, Bargain Lovers' Weekend Plant and Bake sale, local garden tours and an annual Christmas party.

The group provides scholarships for Ferndale High School students, the awards to the winners of the Humboldt County Fair flower categories, Arbor Day plantings, annual plant sales, and contributes to other local programs and charities.

The Ferndale garden Club is also a member of the Humboldt District California Garden Clubs, Inc. and the National Garden Clubs, Inc.
