Throughout the years many have participated in the Fortuna Rodeo Run, which plays hosts to a 5K and a 10K run. This year's run will be held on Saturday, July 20 in conjunction with the Fortuna Rodeo Days activities.
The run is a non-profit event sponsored by the Six Rivers Running Club Relay for Life Team, Athletes' Feet for a Cure, Team #169, and Fortuna High Running Programs. The proceeds from the Rodeo Run will go to the American Cancer Society and Fortuna Running Programs.
The race route will be a certified course straight out and back, beginning in front of Beverage Plus at 1221 Main St., Fortuna, and continuing onto Fortuna Boulevard and then back to the start for the 5K racers. The 10K racers will repeat the course twice.
The race will begin at 9 a.m. for both legs and the Rodeo Run is asking participants who would like to walk the race to only participate in the 5K as the course has to be cleared in time for the annual Fortuna Rodeo Parade being held at noon.
Last year the race brought over two hundred run/walk participants with a great number of merchants and businesses who supported the event raising $3,000.
There are merchant teams who race for a special award. To be a merchant team you must have at least five runners and be sponsored by a Fortuna merchant. Teams are encouraged to wear matching shirts.
The winning merchant team will have their business sponsor and team member names carved on a perpetual trophy donated by Ferndale Jewelers.
Registration forms are available at www.6rrc.com. Forms are also available at HeathSport in Fortuna and the Jogg'n Shoppe in Arcata. For those late registrants registration will begin at 8 a.m. the morning of the event with a $5 late fee assessed.
