Fortuna is gearing up for the Fortuna Rodeo week of events that will line the streets, fill the park, and wrap up at the rodeo grounds.
The Fortuna Rodeo kicks off with the Chili Cook-off on Main Street on Monday, July 15, at 5 p.m. There will be music by Jenny & David and the Sweet Soul Band.
The Fortuna Chamber of Commerce has vendor and cook-off competitor applications which must be returned by July 12 by noon with fees paid.
Cook-off committee member Patti Cady of U.S. Bank and in Fortuna extended a challenge of “Battle of the Industries” to her fellow banks. Committee member Lisa Whitchurch continued the industry challenge, extending it to engineers.
” We are very excited about this new theme within the Chili Cook-off and are contacting other industries to expand the challenge,” cook-off chairman Tiara Brown said.
Brown expects to see the challenge include Insurance agencies, engineers, investment brokers, automotive, banks, and restaurants. Interested participants are encouraged to create and extend their own industry challenge, and to contact Brown at 502-8018.
The cook-off committee is made up of local businesswomen Brown and committee members Cady, Debbie Tucker, Becky Giacomini, Lisa Whitchurch, Erin Dunn and Judy Hollifield.
”The 'Battle of the Industries' winner will receive a certificate and bragging rights,” said Brown. The cook-off will also have its regular categories of winners who receive certificates and trophies.
Applicants for the cook-off must have a valid state seller's permit to sell anything at the cook-off. More information about seller's permits can be obtained at www.boe.ca.gov.
Vendor and chili booths are $30 and will be located on Main Street between 10th and 12th streets. Set up will begin at noon with vendors being intermingled with cook-off contestants. Spaces are given on a first come, first serve basis.
For those businesses who do not want to fire up the stove for a cook-off booth, banners will be placed around the perimeter of the event for $50. This sponsorship will help promote your business while helping to sponsor this event that will see exposure of over 1,000 people.
