Scotia is offering a women's softball league to take place at the Scotia Field with the league beginning on June 24. Game times will be held weather permitting at 6:30 p.m., 7:45 p.m., and 9 p.m. Sign-ups are being taken now with a draft being held on May 17 for team managers.
The league is being managed by Traci Ober, Ageana Tibbett, and Tammy Slade. If you would like to join the league there is a $35 non-refundable player's fee that must be submitted via Paypal.com to firstname.lastname@example.org. When you submit your payment also list your desired position.
”The teams will be formed using a draft style selection process,” Tibbett said. “The basic design of the draft is that each team is given a position in the drafting order in reverse order relative to its record in the previous year.”
All skill levels are encouraged to join and try out the great sport of softball. Teams will be small enough to allow for quality playing time and camaraderie.
Due to the fact this is a new league the first year's draft position will be assigned by a blind draw. Each manager in the order of their draw will then select an eligible player from the draft board. Draft round numbers will be determined by the number of eligible players. Teams will be allowed 12 players with no side pickups following the draft.
”Any late entries will need to go through the managers and will only be added based on team availability and drafting position,” said Tibbett.
The new Scotia league is being created to provide another opportunity for local athletes to play a sport they love.
”The draft will help to increase the competitive edge for all teams within the league,” Tibbett said.
Once teams are formulated it is encourage that they coordinate uniform attire via wearing universal colors or uniforms. The League will be using American Softball Association rules, you must be 18 to play, and there are ASA bat restrictions.
Games will be held to a 1 hour, 15 minute time limit. A complete list of rules, game schedule, and season length will be provided once the draft is complete.
