Three years ago, Fortuna's only sweet shop opened up at Main Street near 11th. To the delight of many Fortuna High students, the shop was an oasis from the rigors of school. But after much consideration, owners Kristin Robertson and Steve Ambrosini of Ferndale made a difficult decision to relocate their business in Eureka's Bayshore Mall, and just two weeks ago, the shop, located across from the jungle gym and Pretzel Time opened to an enthusiastic crowd.

”It was mainly a business decision to move the store to Eureka,” Robertson said. “I will miss the 'friendly city of Fortuna' alot, but am excited because just in the first week of being open, I have had a lot of my loyal customers from Fortuna come in!”

Robertson, who has a background in sweets is orginally from southern California, but moved to Humboldt County with her parents back in 1981. “My parents, Sam and Roberta Agajanian owned the Famous Aggies Donuts in Fortuna for over 17 years. So, I was raised in a family, locally-owned business,” Robertson said.

To get the new store location going, the two put much time and effort into designing the new venue, “and we orginally were intending to open sooner,” Robertson said. “We ran into a few road blocks with some permits. The new store was not orginally a food service store, so we had to do some adjusting with plumbing, and so forth.”

At Sweet Temptations, they make cotton candy, caramel popcorn and candied popcorn on the spot. Plus they have a huge array of candy, including over 40 flavors of Jelly Belly's, tons of Gummies plus chocolates and truffles, of course.

The new store also comes with some surprises, like a baby section, a bridal section, a birthday and get well section, and an "Oldies but Goodies" section.

The Grand Opening will take place on Feb. 13, the day before Valentine's Day, complete with a big candy and goodie give-away with prizes awaiting passersby.
