The Salvation Army of Eureka's youth group will dust-off the red kettles, last seen in December, and ring bells for a special one day blitz, in effort to raise money for the organization's disaster relief efforts in Haiti.
In the aftermath of a 6.5 magnitude earthquake striking off the coast of Eureka, The Salvation Army's young people realize how blessed they were and are doing what they can to give back to those who were not dealt the same fate.
Since the quake hit Haiti, The Salvation Army has been working around the clock to provide much needed assistance to the people. The Salvation Army has had a presence in Haiti for 60 years, running clinics, schools, hospitals, orphanages and many other social services programs. The 700 officers and staff members already stationed in the country have since been greeted with numerous other Salvation Army first responders to assist in the relief efforts in the quake-ravaged region.
Disaster response teams are delivering food, clean water and baby and medical supplies to thousands of quake survivors. As one of the largest social service organizations in Haiti, this week, The Salvation Army was named by the United Nations as the “lead agency” responsible for the well-being of an estimated 20,000 earthquake survivors.
Donations to the relief efforts in Haiti can be sent to: The Salvation Army World Service Office, International Disaster Relief Fund, P.O. Box 630728, Baltimore, MD 21263-0728. Designate donations “Haiti Earthquake.” Or, to make a secure donation, go to www.gosalarmy.org.
