The Fortuna High SLAC-kers club was thrilled with the turnout for our e-waste recycling project. At the end of the day more than 6 truck trailers of e-waste was collected to be refurbished, repaired or disassembled for component and materials recycling in the United States.
We have many people to thank in our efforts to help our community recycle these items. Of course, that includes everyone who brought us recyclable materials! We learned a lot about how to run this event from people connected with the City of Fortuna: Dean Glaser, John Crotty, Dennis Ryan, Mike Johnson and Angie Woods shared what they knew from events previously hosted.
Linda Stansberry from the California Conservation Corps brought her team into play by scheduling pickups of e-recycling items from our senior citizens - that was a great idea and very much appreciated! When we were in danger of running out of pallets Forbusco, Ray's, and Shaffer's Ace hardware donated all the pallets we needed - that was very cool and we thank you!
The wonderful team from the C.C.C. picked them up for us! Yea! Other individuals helped or lent us things where they saw the need or if we asked (thank you all - you know who you are!) Fortuna High lent the space and materials to keep us safe - they were supportive and made it easy - that was appreciated.
A big shout out to you, Noe Vasquez! Also, very importantly, our Fortuna High School SLAC-kers (club mentors, members and others), worked their fingers to the bone until the job was done! That was hard work - we couldn't be more proud of all of you!
NeuWaste commented that the reason we had such an amazing collection event was because in smaller towns, like Fortuna, people still work together and share the load. That doesn't happen everywhere anymore, but as WE know, Fortuna is, in fact, the friendly city - to everyone including ourselves!
