Andy and Lorraine were married on July 1, 1951, in Rohnerville at the Grange Hall by Lorraine's pastor, Lloyd Anderson. Pastor Anderson's daughter Astell and Louise sang the song, “Always.” Their flower girl was Lorraine's younger sister, Joann Kletke who, along with her husband Ray, joined the Schuelers on their cruise.
Andy was born and raised on the old Schueler Place behind Rohner Park. Lorraine moved to Rohnerville as a child in 1946 from San Francisco. Lorraine was in the last class to graduate from the old Rohnerville school and Andy graduated with the first class from College of the Redwoods. They both attended Fortuna High School and graduated from College of the Redwoods. They met at the skating rink in Rohner Park.
Andy served in the second World War. Joking to this day, he says, “They knew I was coming so they declared peace while I was on the high seas heading that way.” After serving in the war, Andy worked most of his life as a saw filer for many of the old saw mills in the area. Lorraine was a beautician for a few years and stopped to raise their four daughters. She then earned her degree and worked as a medical assistant in local offices. When Andy retired from his job, Lorraine did likewise.
They have made numerous trips back east and have now been in all 50 states. Andy is known as “Handy Andy” and is always busy working on his many projects and his “honey do” list. Lorraine loves to garden and to read and be crafty. They both love travel and spend time with their best friends, their four daughters, and the rest of the family.
Andy and Lorraine Schueler of Rohnerville celebrated their 60th anniversary on a trip that included the Hawaiian Islands.
