Norma Wilma Gomes passed away on Oct. 19 2011 in Auburn, California, after a long battle with dementia. Norma was 82 years old, born February 21st, 1929 in Cokeville, Wyoming. Mom was the middle of seven children born to William and Cleo Branson. Mom moved from Wyoming with her family in 1945 to Rohnerville where she attended Fortuna High and graduated in 1948. Mom and Dad were married in 1952 and moved to Port Kenyon, in Ferndale. Mom was busy raising 5 children and cleaning up after two floods before moving to Arcata, then to Indianola Cutoff. After a short stay in Iowa, Mom and Dad moved back to Humboldt County to live and work the Green Point Ranch east of Lord Ellis on Highway 299. It was there that the children and grand kids would come and help Dad with doctoring cattle, riding horses, making firewood and enjoying the pool on hot days and the snow in the winter. Mom loved the snow, it reminded her of Wyoming as a child, ice skating on frozen ponds. After Dad's death in 1986, Mom moved to Eureka, she was looking for hotter weather and Redding became her next residence and then Auburn. Mom was content with warmer weather and close to family.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Tom (Shelly) Gomes, Loleta, Ca; Suzanne (Garvin) Mitchell, Twin Falls, Idaho; Gary (Lisa) Gomes, Foresthill, Ca; Luis (Carolyn) Gomes, Cottonwood, Ca; and Rod (Ginger) Gomes Auburn, Ca. She is survived by her 12 grandchildren: Dan & Jen
Mom was preceded in death by her loving husband E.L. Zip Gomes, her brother Francis Branson and sister Rose Thornock, her parents, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Luis & Rose Gomes, her brothers-in-law, John Waters, Lamar Thornock, Dennis Rodrigues and Sisters-in-law Grace Bowman and Jean Fouts. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
