David Rae Ashburn was born in Scotia, Calif., on Aug. 14, 1941, and died on Sept. 16, 2011, in Winston, Ore., from cardiorespiratory arrest at the age of 70. Dave was raised in Hydesville and was in the class of 1960 as a Fortuna High School grad. As an avid sportsman, he enjoyed playing high school football as a QB.
After high school, Dave spent several years in the Oakland (Bay Area), where he met his current wife, Patsy (Hardenbrook-Turner) Ashburn. They were married for 42-years and had two sons together, son Adam (Anya), son Chad, plus four grandchildren.
Dave's favorite recreation in Oregon was going to Ten Down Bowling Alley and sharing in the fun of bowling on the leagues. He will always be remembered for his lively sense of humor and cracking jokes, even in his last few hours. Dave was a strong husband, loving father and happy grandpa. He will be greatly missed. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Robert "Bob" Ashburn (Vera) of San Francisco, Connie "Camron-Ashburn" Randle (Norman) of Trinity Center, Calif.; his brother, Russell Camron Ashburn of Canyonville, Ore.; cousin, Jerry "Ashburn" Bryant of Ferndale, Calif.; grandfather, Elmer B. Ashburn of Emmittsburg, Iowa; and grandmother, Mary C. "Fries-Ashburn" Jansen (Geurt) of Fortuna, Calif.
He is also survived by his high school buddy, Ken Barlow of Fortuna; and lastly, his first wife, DIane "York-Ashburn" Needham
