The Eel River Trap Club wrapped up their holiday event to support the Fortuna Volunteer Fire Departments Santa Sleigh Service Program with their “Toys 4 Tots Shoot” earlier this month.
ERTC has been hosting the shoot on the second weekend of November since 2001. This event is a big draw to the Trap Club community as it helps raise money for local children who otherwise would not have such a special holiday, and is made up of five separate events.
Participants in the event could bring a toy and receive a $10 discount on their event fee. If they did not bring a toy they paid the full price and the ERTC donated $10 of their fee.
During the event there was a raffle for a money clip that displays the same belt buckle engraving for the event. The money clip raffle brought $80 to their overall donation. FVFD Company 2 Captain Mike Ransford bought some raffle tickets while picking up toy donations and at the end of the day his name was drawn to win the symbolic money clip.
ERTC representative Sydney Myers decided to make a special presentation to Captain Ransford at the Fortuna Chamber of Commerce Luncheon on the following Monday. Captain Ransford was very surprised and honored to receive the money clip which represents an event that supports the FVFD Santa Sleigh Service which is so near and dear to his heart.
The Santa's Sleigh program has been serving the community since 1987.
Myers of the Eel River Trap Club presented Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department Chief Lon Winburn with a sizable check for $770 to help support the Santa's Sleigh Service.
The Eel River Trap Club is located at 1825 Eel River Drive in Fortuna and is open to the public on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. except during registered shoots. The club also offers hunter safety classes.
