Reno hard-rockers Merkin will play a free show at the Mad River Brewing Co. in Blue Lake on Thursday evening. “Merkin is an intellectually driven power trio formed in Reno, Nev. in 2009,” according to the band's announcement. “Deemed 'thinking-man's rock' by their fans, they have a full and eclectic sound that is always entertaining.”

Local band Play Dead will perform tunes by The Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia on Thursday night at HumBrews.

What: Matt the Electrician, Huckleberry Flint

Where: Arcata Playhouse, 1251 Ninth St.

Admission: $15, all ages

Catchy, acoustic-folk star Matt the Electrician out of Austin will bolt into Arcata for a show on Friday at the Arcata Playhouse. Local bluegrass standouts Huckleberry Flint will also perform.

What: Bob Weir, Jackie Greene

Where: Eureka Municipal Auditorium, 1120 F St.

Admission: $42.50 to $67.50, all ages

San Francisco singer-songwriter and Grateful Dead vocalist and guitarist Bob Weir will perform solo and acoustic at the Eureka Muni on Saturday night. Salinas singer-songwriter Jackie Greene will also take the stage. Passes are available at ticketmaster.com.

What: Peace of Mind Orchestra

On Saturday night after the Bob Weird show at the Muni, Eureka's Red Fox Tavern just down the street will boast an electro-soul dance party with local stars Peace of Mind Orchestra. The price of admission was not determined by press time.

What: Kitka

When: 7 p.m. Sunday

Where: Arcata Playhouse, 1251 Ninth St.

Admission: $20, all ages

Inspired by the music of Eastern Europe and founded in 1979, the Oakland-based vocal ensemble Kitka will take their show to Arcata for a Sunday evening performance at the 'Playhouse. “Under the co-direction of Shira Cion, Juliana Graffagna and Janet Kutulas since 1997, Kitka has grown to earn recognition from the National Endowment for the Arts, Chorus America and the American Choral Directors' Association as one of this country's premier touring vocal ensembles,” according to the announcement. Arcata Playhouse members will be admitted for $3 less.
