The Ferndale Museum began 2010 with 252 members. Over the last two years membership has grown to 611. Part of this growth can be can be attributed to their expanded newsletter, “Our Story” and an oral history program that has lead to the production of six films including “The Lost Village of Camp Weeott” and “Letters Home,” the winner of the 2011 Autry award for public history. Another part of the growth can be attributed to interesting and innovative public events and fund raisers.

The latest museum fundraiser is courtesy of museum member Floyd Bettiga, a 1950 graduate of Ferndale High School. Bettiga is a nationally recognized artist whose works have been exhibited all over the country. He has also been an art teacher at junior high, high school and college levels. In August, Bettiga donated one of his impressionistic floral paintings to the museum. This particular painting can now be seen at the Griggs's Gallery on Main Street in Ferndale. Raffle tickets for the painting are available at the Ferndale Museum, The Griggs Gallery, Rings Pharmacy and Greens Pharmacy in Fortuna. The prize drawing is on Friday, Dec. 2 at 8 p.m., at the Griggs Gallery.
