Intermediate and advanced students at the Ferndale Dance Academy will present a Winter Dance Concert on Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Winema Theatre in Scotia. The show will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a reception following at the Scotia Inn.

The concert will feature student choreography by Catherine Boers, Rebecca Davis, Sharon Harrison, Savannah Snyder, Allison Stanfield, Kayla Thomas, and Abigail Titus. This will be the first time Ferndale Dance Academy students perform at the Winema Theatre and the first time that students will be choreographing. Creative writing projects are also being intermixed with the dances.

The concert is being used as a fundraiser for the Dance Academy's annual June performances at the Arkley. The director, Laura East, says the concert provides students with a great opportunity to gain further performing experience and to begin to understand the challenges of choreographing a dance.

"Learning how to bring your creative vision for a dance to life is a skill that takes practice. Now students have an opportunity to gain this experience and see how they like it."

Tickets for both the concert and reception are $15. Tickets for the concert are $10, and children 5 and under are free. Tickets can be bought 30 minutes before the performance if it does not sell out. For details, call 496-0805.
