The Fortuna Triple Crown Dynasty Show Cheer Team claimed first place at the JAMZ National Cheer Competition, held late last month in Las Vegas.

“The girls competed against five other teams,” said Fortuna team coach Jayme Totten. “They won the division and are now national champions,” she said.

The Youth Triple Crown Dynasty Show Cheer Team also did well in the national competition, placing 5th in their division.

Three judges evaluate the teams as they perform placing 25 percent of the score on tumbling, 50 percent plus 1 (majority) on jumps and motions, and 50 percent plus 1 on stunts, dismounts, and tosses.

In the Show Cheer category, music is required, along with the gymnastics, tumbling, and stunts. Poms, megaphones, signs and banners are encouraged, and spirited entrances are allowed. Teams are asked to take no more than 10 seconds to set up for their routine.

Totten said she and the girls on both teams were very exited about participating in the national competition and happy with the results.
