Vickie Thornton did it again by winning the Aug. 21 day's play of "Throw Out" with a score of 44 and the low net of 65. Judy White took the second spot with 46 followed by Barb Lindsay, 47, Jo Ann French and NanSea Russ, 48 and Carolyn Podratz with 49. Closest to the pin honors went to Podratz and Russ with a tie on No. 2, Judie Hufford on No. 6 and Rosalinda Brainerd on No. 16. Russ also had the low putts of 26 and Lindsay, the low gross of 87. The tournament was played at Redwood Empire Golf & Country Club in Fortuna.
The Fortuna connection ruled at the recent Redwood Empire Golf and Country Club's Pro-am.
In the professional event, REG&CC Head Professional Greg Senestraro tied for first with Tierra Oaks (Redding) pro Larry Babica with a 73. Babica's father, Mel, used to work as the head pro at Fortuna's Redwood Empire. The tourney took place Aug. 18.
Finishing third with a 75 was Baywood Golf and Country Club's Head Pro Jim Hosley. Dave Lovald of the Eureka Golf Course took fourth with a 76.
In the team Pro-Am tournament, Beau Pre Golf Club's Rex Denham led a foursome of amateurs — Jeff Myers, Juan Luevana, Billy Bartley and Pat McCormick — to victory.
Finishing in second was a team helmed by Senestraro: Mike Meltzer, Marcus Pretorius, John Cady and Jerry Pozun.
Three teams tied for third: Pat Goodman, Travis Early, Rich Staples, and Justin Graham with Senestraro; Curt Wood, Don Nolan, Vicki Nolan and Dennis Christie with Hosley; and Bobby Babica (Larry's brother), Paul "Miagi" Mikels, Dick "Dicky Lou" Lewis and Loren "Fergie" Ferguson with Larry Babica.
