Golf: Ham and Egg win Redwood Empire Men's League

After nearly three months of competition, the Ham and Egg team won the Redwood Empire Golf and Country Club?s Men?s Golf League.

Ham Egg beat S&H Machine in the league finale on Aug. 6. The format consisted of individual one-on-one match play pitting the four members of each team against each other. The Ham and Egg menu of players were Kevin DeNoma, Philip Johnson, Jerry Beacom and Kevin Carter.

The second-place S&H Machinists team members were Rod Thompson, Steve Hutchings, Tom Chapman and Willie Shwaika.

The Thundering Herd rode over The Rhinos to take third place. Herd: Tom Losa, Jason McCanless, Greg Gomes and Dylan Feierabend. Fourth-place Rhinos: Rich Black, Louie Shaha, Randy Gans and Dustin Hurst.

Eighteen teams, a minimum total of 72 players, not including reserves and substitutes, played in the Tuesday night league.

Betty Treder won the Aug. 7 day's play of "5 and 4" with a score of 35 and also tied with Carol Kinser for the low net of the day with 71s. Barb Lindsay carded the low gross of 90. Closest to the pins went to Lynn Freeman on no. 2 and Betty Treder on no. 16. Carol Kinser had the low putts of 31. The tournament was played at Redwood Empire Golf and Country Club in Fortuna.

The Humboldt County Women's Golf tournament was played on Aug. 4, Aug. 5 and Aug. 7 at Eureka Golf Course, Beau Pre Golf Course and Baywood Golf and Country Club, respectively. The winners from Redwood Empire were 1st flight: Janet Barnwell, 1st low net. 2nd flight: Nova Heilbronn, 1st low net, NanSea Russ and Rosalinda Brainerd tied for 2nd low gross, Jan Carrico, 2nd low net, Carolyn Podratz, third low net. 3rd flight: Jo Ann French, 1st low gross, Cece Faddler, 1st low net, Sherron Bissmeyer and Renee Crowley tied for 3rd low net.
