2nd UPDATE: The Caltrans website shows that Highway 36 has been reopened to one way traffic control. The highway was temporarily closed in response to the ongoing vegetation fire near Bridgeville.
UPDATE: CalFire Division Chief Mark McKey said a fire near Bridgeville is over 30 acres with several structures threatened. Evacuations are in progress and the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office has been requested for additional aid, McKey said.
As of about 4:20 p.m., McKey said no crews are on scene yet, but one is on the way and four more have been requested from out of the area.
"Helicopters are on order, but they're pretty hard to come by," McKey said. "We have four to six air tankers there."
McKey said the area of the fire has temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit with windy conditions. The vegetation fire is burning grass, brush and timber, McKey said.
"A little bit of everything," he said.
Highway 36 will close down by 4:30 p.m. today in response to a fire currently burning near Bridgeville, according to Caltrans Public Information Officer Phil Frisbie Jr.
"We will be closing it down near McClelland Mountain Road," he said.
The CalFire Fortuna headquarters stated that no one was available to talk about the fire.
