The 11th annual College of the Redwoods Athletics Dinner and Sports Auction will be held on Aug. 14 at the CR Gymnasium on the College of the Redwoods campus in Eureka.
The Dinner and Sports Auction is a benefit for CR student athletes and their sports programs. This is the first time the event will be held on the CR campus after 10 successful years at the Adorni Center in Eureka.
This year's event will highlight the Titus family of Ferndale as the honorees and featured speakers. The event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with a no-host social and silent auction, dinner and speakers at 6:30 p.m. and the live auction at 7 p.m.
The Titus family has long history in Humboldt County and Ferndale. Dayton and Gayle Titus had four children Yvonne, David, Stuart and Cliff, all of whom attended College of the Redwoods in the 1970s.
Daughter Yvonne was a cheerleader at CR. All three sons played sports at CR after standout athletic careers at Ferndale High School.
Dave played football, basketball and ran track at CR. He is in the CR Athletics Hall of Fame and was on the 1972 state championship football team which was inducted into the CR Hall of Fame, and the 1972-'73 conference championship basketball team which was also inducted into the CR Hall of Fame.
Stuart was inducted into the CR Alumni Hall of Fame and also played on the 1972 football team which was inducted into the CR Athletics Hall of Fame and played on the 1973 baseball team which finished runner-up in the state championship and was also inducted into the CR Hall of fame.
Youngest son Cliff played basketball at CR from 1974 to 1976 and also participated on the track and field team specializing in the hurdles.
Tickets for the CR Dinner and Sports Auction are $60 for a single person, $400 for a table of eight or $500 for a table of 10. Tickets can be obtained by calling the CR Athletic Department at 476-4213.
