The Humboldt Senior Resource Center celebrated Community Champions Week last week, giving locals a way for to show their support to the community by serving meals to hungry seniors and the homebound.
HSRC programs include Adult Day Health and Alzheimer's Services, a state-licensed therapeutic day program; senior dining centers in Arcata, Eureka and Fortuna; home-delivered meals; recreational activities; the Multipurpose Senior Services Program, which provides care management services for frail seniors; and the monthly Senior News newspaper.
March for Meals Community Champions included participation from Humboldt Area Foundation, Mel & Grace McLean Foundation, and St. Joseph Health.
In the upcoming weeks representatives from North Coast Co-Op, Green Diamond and Rose Perenin Foundation will participate, accompanying and assisting HSRC's regular home delivered meal drivers on their regular routes.
"We are excited about having our local foundations participate in our March for Meals Community Champions week," said Barbara Walser, HSRC director of nutrition and activities. "This is a wonderful opportunity for many of our longtime supporters to see, first hand, the benefits our home delivered meal program in the McKinleyville, Arcata, Eureka, and Fortuna communities. This is an excellent way to continue our relationship."
