The Fortuna Garden Club is hosting its 39th annual Daffodil Show at the Fortuna River Lodge on Saturday and Sunday. The show will begin at noon on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday. There is no fee for attending the show although the club graciously accepts donations.
FGC planted 380 daffodils in pots to sell at the show to help support the event and other community ventures the club supports throughout the year. Pots will be sold for $15 each or 2 for $25. FGC will also provide punch and cookies to those in attendance.
The Fortuna Garden Club Daffodil Show is the farthest northern judged show in California.
"This show is very important to the American Daffodil Society," said past club president Cynthia Cooke. "As a judged show they receive points to their national standings. Judges from all over Northern California are coming to see this most Northern show."
Club members believe, said Cooke, that the show is their gift to Fortuna: a free event that brings people to the community and boosts the economy.
