Arcata man arrested after multi-car hit-and-run in Eureka

An Arcata man who was allegedly driving drunk when he ran a truck into three parked cars in Old Town Eureka, leaving at least one vehicle on top of another, was arrested a few blocks away, a Eureka Police Department official said Monday.

Sgt. Steve Watson said Kyle Lee Payton, 22, was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and hit and run after allegedly hitting the cars on the 200 block of E Street shortly before midnight Sunday.

An eyewitness led officers to Payton, who was found outside his truck on the 1000 block of C Street. Watson said Payton was detained and later determined to be the driver and under the influence of alcohol.

Watson said further investigation revealed there were two other passengers in Payton's truck during the hit and run and one received minor injuries. Payton was booked into the Humboldt County jail.
