U.S. Highway 101 will be completely shut down Sunday to remove unstable rock slide material about 5 miles south of Crescent City, Caltrans announced.
Starting at 9 a.m., the area from south of Hamilton Road to just south of the Mill Creek Park entrance will be closed. No detours will be available. The operation could last until 5 p.m., said Caltrans spokesman Scott Burger.
"An area has been identified that has rock slide material, which could pose a hazard to motorists or the roadway itself," Burger said. "The operation is weather dependent, but it looks like we'll have great weather."
Following the first phase of full highway closure, the area will be opened to one-way traffic control through Tuesday. Motorists should expect up to 15 minute delays, Burger said. The work is weather dependent.
