The Fortuna Concert Series on March 8 is welcoming back The Babes, a choral group started 20 years ago as an outgrowth of the Humboldt Light Opera Co.
Directed by Carol McWhorter Ryder, the group is typically 25 women from many walks of life: retired teachers, office managers, counselors, nutritionists, professors, and post office workers. Annette Hull is the pianist.
The repertoire for this performance will include an eclectic mix of songs from folk to jazz, serious to seriously funny. They will present jazz standards from the '40s to modern compositions.
Babe Magnets, a small ensemble of men directed by Bill Ryder, will join the group in concert.
The program will bring back many memories, and you will leave humming your favorites.
Concert time is 7:30 p.m. at the Fortuna Monday Club, 610 Main St. in Fortuna. Ticket prices are General Admission $10; Students and Seniors $8. Tickets for individual concerts are available at the door. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. For more information, visit fortunaconcertseries.com, call 707-682-6092 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
