Arrest made in Fortuna robbery, assault

A 35-year-old Fortuna man was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly hit a woman over the head and stole her laptop, according to a Sunday press release from the Fortuna Police Department.

At around 8 p.m. on Saturday, a police sergeant responded to a 49-year-female theft victim on North Fortuna Boulevard who said a male suspect hit her over the head, stole the laptop she was carrying and ran north on Fortuna Boulevard, according to the press release. The victim refused medical treatment.

The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Christopher Crowl, of Fortuna, was located by another officer shortly after. When Crowl failed to comply with the officer, he was held at gunpoint on the sidewalk and then detained, according to the release. The stolen laptop and items from Ray's Food Place in Fortuna, later determined to be stolen, were recovered after Crowl was searched.

Crowl was then booked into Humboldt County jail on suspicion of robbery, possession of stolen property, assault and parole violation.
