Five arrested at Fortuna motel Saturday night; four on narcotics offenses

A report of drug trafficking at a Fortuna motel resulted in the arrest of five people late Saturday night.

Katrina Lane (27 years old), Alexander Church (21), Stacio Kopiej and Ligeia Hassall were charged with narcotic offenses while Edmund Kotterman (30) got snagged on a public intoxication, according to a press release from the Fortuna Police Department. The ages of Kopiej and Hassall were not released.

All five were arrested after officers received a report of possible narcotic trafficking in one of the room as the National Nine Motel at about 12:35 a.m.

According to the police officials, upon arrival, officers could see drugs within the room after one of the occupants opened the door. The person went on to say two were hiding in the bathroom which turned out to be Lane and Church. The pair were hiding and trying to get rid of narcotics, officials said.

Upon further investigation, officers learned the rooms' primary tenant, Kopiejc was currently on probation and that allowed for a search of his person and the property. Officers found 14.3 grams of methamphetamine and unspecified amounts of heroin, concentrated cannabis. A digital scale and various amounts of packaging materials were also discovered.

While inside the room, officials added, Kotterman arrived and asked to speak with the occupants. Officers determined Kotterman was under the influence of a controlled substance and placed him under arrest.
