The Humboldt County Planning Commission will hold the first of three public hearings on Tuesday evening reviewing the Conservation and Open Space Element in the county General Plan Update.
The hearings are a result of the Board of Supervisors' decision at its Jan. 13 General Plan meeting to refer the entirety of the Conservation and Open Space Element -- a 55-page General Plan Update chapter that addresses open space conservation, waste management, as well as biological, mineral, cultural and scenic resources -- back to the Planning Commission for 45 days of review. The decision was passed by a 3-2 vote, with 3rd District Supervisor Mark Lovelace and 2nd District Supervisor Estelle Fennell dissenting.
"Staff recommends the Planning Commission first decide how it will develop its recommendations to the Board of Supervisors and the tentative schedule for completion of its review," the Planning Commission staff report states.
During the meetings, the Planning Commission will discuss the "short list" of items the board recommended the commission use to "streamline its review," according to the staff report.
The next two public hearings are set to take place on Jan. 30 and Feb. 4.
